Foreword from Director
The Harun M. Hashim Law Centre is driven by its simple mission to help people succeed in life through education and training. This conviction will endure as it is consistent with our personal calling and needs. However, the strategy and approach shall be reinvented as the context for education has changed. This is necessitated by the powerful forces of globalization, technology innovation and change itself.
In light of this, for the Law Centre to have a strategic position in the legal world, we need to create a world class workforce that is educated differently. In the IT age, where time and space have collapsed, the new paradigms require a multi workforce for lifelong success. The general consensus now focuses on certain critical enabling skills which includes;
i) |
|
Learning to learn |
ii) |
|
Collaboration and communication |
iii) |
|
Creative thinking and problem solving |
iv) |
|
Technology literacy |
v) |
|
Global business literacy |
vi) |
|
Leadership development and |
vii) |
|
Career self-management |
It is our commitment that these critical enabling skills will be incorporated into our academic and training programmes.
Since its establishment, the Law Centre had shown tremendous growth in terms of its operation and activities. During its inception, the Law Centre had offered two (2) programmes, which are the Certificate in Company Administration (CiCA) and Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). At present, the Law Centre had expended its operations by offering twenty one (21) programmes comprising Postgraduate programmes, Professional programmes and Pre Degree programmes.
Among the various achievements of the Law Centre that it is proud of is that, it has boldly attempted and thus has successfully established a number of consultancy units to provide consultancy services both nationally and internationally. The units are the Islamic Banking and Finance Unit (IBFU), Land Use Planning and Environmental Management Unit (LATEC), Medical Law and Ethics Unit (MELEU), Corporate Law Unit (CLU) and Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit (ADRU).
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as local and international companies to work together with the Centre and benefit from its various services and expertise that meets the world-class standard.
